Changes to the EU’s Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive came into force in the UK on 26 May 2011. These changes affect all businesses that have websites, make marketing phone calls or send emails to consumers.
The amendment to the law requires UK businesses and organisations running websites in the UK to get informed consent from visitors to their websites in order to store and retrieve information on users’ computers.
The government is working with browser manufacturers to see if their products can be enhanced to meet the requirements of the new legislation. Until this is the case, no enforcement action will be taken.
However, eXi Solutions will consider the points and create a plan of action for all its clients to achieve compliance, if required.
